So you´re planning to jet off to Lanzarote this autumn. But where are the best places to stay and how do you choose the right resort for you?

Lanzarote is a popular holiday island located off the coast of West Africa. It belongs to Spain and has done ever since the 1400´s. And welcomes something in the region of 1.5 million visitors every year from across Europe. Making it one of the most popular destinations in Spain.

Over 50% of these tourist guests arrive on cheap Lanzarote flights from the UK – as this is the islands largest single tourist market. The British have had a long running love affair with Lanzarote ever since package holidays were first sold to this destination back in the early 1970´s. Drawn by its great year round climate and wonderful beaches. These days package holiday makers are just as likely to find themselves travelling alongside independent tourists. As thanks to the internet it is now simple for consumers to find and book their own Lanzarote hotels and flights online.

Many British tourists have also fallen in love with the newest resort on the island, Playa Blanca, which lies right at the southern end of Lanzarote. Playa Blanca is home to some great beaches and from here tourists can also hop on board ferries to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura. There are also some great villas in Playa Blanca available for rent. Providing good value accommodation with plenty of luxury extras such as private swimming pools and Jacuzzis.

Playa Blanca is just one of three great resorts situated on the island. The largest as well as the oldest is called Puerto del Carmen and it is located much more centrally, close to the airport at Arrecife. Tourists started coming here back in the 1970´s when there weren’t even any roads and only one hotel. Obviously things have moved on a little since then and today this is a bustling destination.

Puerto del Carmen is the resort to head for if you want a lively holiday as the nightlife here is excellent and much better than elsewhere on the island. And there are also plenty of good value accommodation options here in the form of holiday apartment complexes. Where room rates start from about €180 per week.

Costa Teguise is the smallest of the main resorts and is located about a ten minute drive from the capital of Arrecife. It´s an ideal choice for families as it is quieter than both Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca.
